Meet Our Honoree Madison!
Madison Hrinko is an 11 year old 6th grader who loves family bike rides to get ice cream and swimming competitively. She also has arthritis. The Hrinko family’s journey with JA began many years ago when Madison’s mom, Gina, returned from a business trip and noticed 18-month old Madison limping. By the end of the week Madison was not able to walk and they made a trip to their local pediatrician. The pediatrician suspected juvenile arthritis and immediately referred them to a pediatric rheumatologist in Seattle (Alaska has NO pediatric rheumatologists) where the diagnosis was confirmed and treatment began. “Arthritis is for older people,” is what Gina thought in disbelief. Madison currently has to endure twice weekly injections, and her goal is be able to give them to herself. She attends Camp ARCTIC (a camp for kids with arthritis) down in Cooper Landing where she finally met others like herself. When asked what she would like for everyone to know about arthritis she said this, “I would like for everyone to know what it is and how I feel every day, because no one knows what it's like unless they have it.”. Help us jingle towards an arthritis free world. This year we jingle for Madison!!
